Food and Clothing Closet

A practical way we reach into our neighborhood.

About this ministry

Food and Clothing Closet

Cathedral Baptist Church keeps a food and clothing closet because Scripture tells the church to care for people in practical ways. Jesus said, “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me” (Matthew 25:35–36). James writes, “If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?” (James 2:15–16). We take that as a command, not a suggestion.

A joy to the church

Serving this way is also a joy to the church. The Bible says it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35), and that God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). We count it a privilege to share what we have with our neighbors.

Open to anyone

This closet is open to anyone who needs food or clothing. Help here does not depend on your faith, your church membership, or your spiritual background. You do not have to believe what we believe to receive help.

A praying church

Cathedral is a praying church. Scripture tells us to pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), to let our requests be made known unto God (Philippians 4:6), and to pray one for another (James 5:16). We will not force prayer on you. If you would like us to pray with you, we will gladly do so.
