Bible classes for every age.

About this ministry

Sunday School

Cathedral Baptist Church wants to grow in Christ together, and Sunday School is the format that makes that possible.

Sunday mornings begin at 10:00 a.m. with age-appropriate Bible classes for the whole family. While you are in Sunday School, children of all ages are cared for with classes of their own—from nursery through 3rd grade and on through 4th–12th grade. Young adults, Senior Saints, and a disciple class meet at the same hour, so every age has a place.

Sunday School is more than a schedule. It is a biblical way of gathering so we can learn the Word, draw closer to Christ, and walk with one another. Scripture calls believers not to forsake assembling together, but to exhort one another, grow up into Christ, and let every part of the body supply what the others need (Hebrews 10:24–25; Ephesians 4:11–16). Fellowship and support are not extras. They are how the church strengthens its members and keeps Christ at the center.

Why Sunday School matters

  • The early church continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship (Acts 2:42). Teaching the Word and walking together belong in the same gathering.
  • Believers are told to study so they may be approved unto God, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15). Sunday School gives a regular place to do that.
  • We are to let the word of Christ dwell in us richly, teaching and admonishing one another (Colossians 3:16).
  • The body grows when every part does its share. Isolated faith grows thin. Shared study builds a stronger foundation (Ephesians 4:15–16; Ecclesiastes 4:9–12).
  • Parents are commanded to teach God’s Word diligently to their children (Deuteronomy 6:6–7; Proverbs 22:6). Sunday School supports that work. It does not replace it.

For children

Children need the Bible in words they can understand, taught by people who know their names. From nursery through the upper grades, classes meet children where they are and point them to Christ.

  • Age-appropriate lessons help children hear the gospel, learn Scripture, and ask questions in a setting built for them.
  • Consistent teaching lays a foundation before the pressures of later years arrive.
  • Children see that church is not only a service their parents attend. It is a place where they belong.
  • Parents gain partners in the work of training up a child in the way he should go.

For adults

Adults need the same thing children need: the Word, taught plainly, and people who will walk with them. Young adults, Senior Saints, and the disciple class meet at 10:00 a.m. so no one is left without a class.

  • Classes give time to open the Bible, ask hard questions, and apply Scripture to work, home, and daily decisions.
  • Older believers can teach what they have learned, and younger believers can be strengthened by that example (Titus 2:1–8).
  • Fellowship keeps faith from becoming private and thin. Encouragement, correction, and prayer happen best among people who know you.
  • A shared hour in the Word gives husbands and wives a common ground for the week ahead.

How this fellowship strengthens the home

  • Children are taught the Bible while parents are taught the Bible. The whole family leaves with something to talk about.
  • Parents are not asked to do the work of discipleship alone. The church comes alongside them.
  • Husbands and wives hear the same truth, which helps them pray together, correct one another in love, and keep Christ at the center of the marriage.
  • Single adults, Senior Saints, and families all have a class. No one has to sit out the hour that builds the church.
